Maritime UK South West celebrates National Apprenticeship Week by launching online version of maritime careers magazine

Maritime UK South West, the South West’s dedicated maritime cluster for skills and innovation, is celebrating National Apprenticeship Week by launching its maritime careers magazine online.

The magazine, ‘Navigator’, was originally launched late last year in print form and is the first of its kind in the UK. Made possible thanks to funding from the Department for Transport, the magazine has been created for schools, colleges and careers services to share with young people interested in the varied and exciting range of jobs, careers and training opportunities available in the marine and maritime industries.

Sheldon Ryan, Chief Executive of Maritime UK South West:

“We’re excited to launch the online version of Navigator to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week. We’ve had such positive feedback from the print version of the first edition, but there is a limit to how many can get their hands on it!

With our digital version, we can ensure even more young people interested in a career in the marine and maritime industry can see the stories, case studies and real-life examples easily on their phone, tablet or computer.”

The overall funded project to promote careers in the industry, as part of an initiative to grow economies in coastal areas around the UK, has created a partnership between MUKSW, North Devon College, Bournemouth and Poole College, South Devon College and City College Plymouth. This collective has also hosted a range of careers events.

Alongside the magazine, MUKSW have also commissioned a series of maritime careers case study videos – the first six videos in the series were funded by UK government through the Department for Transport Cluster Development Programme. The videos can be viewed online here https://maritimeuksw.org/considering-a-career-in-maritime/ and shared as part of careers resources to promote the marine and maritime industry.

The online version of Navigator can be viewed here https://navigator.maritimeuksw.org/. Print copies can also be requested for careers events and services, libraries and hubs.
