Join the UK’s National Decade Committee (UKNDC) to support the UK’s contribution to the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development

The International Working Group of the Marine Science Coordination Committee is looking for 13 volunteers to join the UK’s National Decade Committee (UKNDC) to support the UK’s contribution to the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (the Decade).

 

We are looking for individuals to serve in their personal capacity to enable the Committee to communicate with passion and inspire participation in the work of the Decade across the UK. We particularly encourage expressions of interest from early career professionals, youth and community voices, industry and civil society.

 

Interested individuals should submit a personal statement of up to 750 words highlighting their engagement with ocean science and experience of developing networks and communicating their passion for ocean issues. Candidates should set out how they would work with others to deliver the key objectives of the UK National Decade Committee:

  • to inspire to engagement across the UK to deliver the societal outcomes of the UN Decade of Ocean Science;
  • to promote and enable the development and delivery of transformational science that delivers the societal outcomes of the UN Decade of Ocean Science.;
  • to promote and enable a whole of society approach to the UN Decade of Ocean Science.

 

The Committee will likely meet for 2 days every quarter with much of its work taking place virtually. Travel and subsistence costs will be covered for in person meetings.

 

The Committee will be co-chaired by the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and its 20 members will include representatives from the Devolved Administrations, the National Oceanography Centre (NOC), UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).
