10.45  UK Hydrogen Policy and the Maritime Sector – Supporting the development of future maritime fuels.

This presentation will explore the role of hydrogen in producing future maritime fuels, examine how current UK hydrogen policy affects their cost, availability and certification, and consider whether maritime is sufficiently integrated into hydrogen policy and infrastructure planning.

11.15  Liquid Hydrogen as an alternative fuel – assessing the opportunities and challenges by reviewing demand, infrastructure and technology.

Hydrogen is being deployed in the maritime sector, driven by EU regulation and by vessel operators seeking credible alternatives to fossil fuels. As this presentation will cover, this is enabled by:

1- committed volumes that justify investment;

2 – clear long-term demand signals that give ports the confidence to allocate scarce real estate to bunkering; and

3 – fuel storage legislation that makes permitting practical.

It will also touch on Air Products’ operating experience, including shore-to-ship and ship-to-ship bunkering projects being delivered today.

11.45 Onboard Carbon Capture and Storage for Ships – A Pioneering Solution.

Onboard carbon capture and storage is becoming increasingly attractive and viable on certain vessels, as an already implementable solution, forming part of a vessel owner and operator’s decarbonisation strategy, complementary to ongoing fuels developments and efficiency optimisations – deployable both for newbuild and retrofit projects. The summarised presentation will cover the recent entry to the marine market of the Wartsila CCS solution, the systems offering, applicability to various vessel types, and operating experience to date.

12.45  GT Wings recent CMDC projects – detail TBC GT Wings’ recent CMDC6 project developed its AirWing wind-assist propulsion system using AI control, weather routing and vessel performance data to optimise fuel and emissions savings. It builds on the earlier CMDC4 Vectis Progress  demonstrator, moving the technology from physical demonstration towards commercially deployable, intelligent wind-assisted propulsion.
