The Cluster 5: Climate, Energy and Mobility Work Programme for 2025 has, at last, been officially pre-published. This contains details of all of the competitions for the whole of 2025 for this part of Horizon Europe (over €1.2Bn available). The EU splits this into Destinations. The six Destinations in Cluster 5 are:
- Climate sciences and responses
- Cross-sectorial solutions for the climate transition (includes batteries)
- Sustainable, secure and competitive energy supply (includes fuels)
- Efficient, sustainable and inclusive energy use (mainly industry and built environment)
- Clean and competitive solutions for all transport modes
- Safe, resilient transport and smart mobility services for passengers and goods
Each Topic within the Work Programme is a standalone competition with its own budget, expected outcomes and well defined scope. Every Topic has a unique identifier such as HORIZON-CL5-2025-0X-DY–AB where:
HORIZON refers to the Programme
CL5 refers to Cluster 5: Climate, Energy and Mobility
2025 (or 2026) refers to the year that the call closes in
0X refers to the call number
DY refers to the Destination Number
AB refers to the Topic Number
This will help you to orient yourself in the document and quickly land on the Destination most relevant for you.
This part of Horizon Europe is very much ‘top down’ in that the EU states a specific problem to be solved rather than requesting good ideas in a general theme.
The EU is holding an online information day on 6th May that is suggested you either join live (you will be able to submit questions via Slido) or make a point of watching the recording.
The following week on 12th May at 1400, the UK National Contact Point team for Cluster 5 (Cinzia Porcedda for Climate, Conall McGinley for Energy and Louise Mothersole for Mobility) will hold another session for UK participants. Which won’t go into the same degree of detail as the EU but will be able to answer other of your questions including the one most often asked: How to join a winning consortium.
