In September 2024, The MOD announced an additional £4.4bn investment over 10 years into His Majesty’s Naval Base (HMNB) and Babcocks Devonport Royal Dockyard to support the next phase of the Royal Navys submarine works and the Continuous at Sea Deterrent (CASD). The requirement to maintain the Royal Navys fleet in Plymouth extends beyond 2070 and therefore creates an extremely rare, long-term financial commitment to Plymouth and its wider region.
Babcock, Plymouth City Council and the MOD have established Team Plymouth as a partnership to ensure the vital defence outputs are delivered into the future whilst supporting the regions growth. Through working together in partnership, Team Plymouth aims to maximise the opportunities that the MOD investment can drive into local communities.
Maritime UK South West are proud to be supporting the skills plan and delivery mechanisms as part of Team Plymouth, working with City College Plymouth and the wider region’s FE, HE, training providers and the largest marine autonomy cluster in the UK the Future Autonomous at Sea Technologies (FAST) cluster.
