Support for businesses
For business, Maritime UK SW hosts a quarterly, online, peer to peer network meeting (see our events page and sign up to the newsletter for details) covering skills and careers issues. We can also provide promotional opportunities via our careers magazine and company specific case study videos. We can also link you to maritime focussed training providers across the region, help you organise work experience and we promote careers at a range of careers events. If your staff would like to act as ambassadors we can also link you to standard and science and tech focussed ambassador networks to help influence the career choices of the next generation. Diversity is also a huge issue in maritime so we also have a Women in Maritime Network and hope to develop a wider Diversity network.
Become a careers ambassador
Maritime UK South West works with a sector-wide industry ambassador programme for schools and colleges called Inspiring the Future.
Inspiring the Future is a vital bridge between young people, educational providers and employers. With over 1000 schools and colleges in the UK already using the platform, we would like to see a growing number of maritime ambassadors available to those schools in all corners of the South West.
MUKSW is working with careers leads and local schools to ensure that if you sign up as an ambassador you will get the opportunity to promote the sector (and by association your company) to local schools.
Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) Maritime Ambassadors
Maritime UK South West works with the STEM Ambassador programme which supports a network of thousands of amazing volunteers to bring real-life examples of STEM careers into schools, colleges, and universities across the UK. They help to break stereotypes and offer engaging activities to inspire the next generation into the infinite possibilities of STEM pathways.
The South West is home to a world beating cluster of maritime and marine science and technology and as yet the sector is not well supported by ambassadors to bring through the next generation so if you have the right skills please do get involved.

Promote your company to young people and careers changers
MUKSW is working with careers leads, schools and businesses to distribute careers materials specific to the South West including The South West Maritime Careers magazine, “Navigator”.
This is a magazine designed to inspire anyone considering maritime by looking at the breadth of careers available in the South West, from marine manufacturing building new boats, ships and submarines to listening to marine mammals and marine science. The magazine is aimed at older children and their parents and provides links to specific video content on our website.
We distribute the magazine via careers hubs to SW schools, at careers fairs and via Job Centre Plus.
