South Coast Marine Cluster signs agreement enabling cooperation with French Cluster

Campus Mondial de la Mer and South Coast Marine Cluster signed a partnership agreement to strengthen trade and collaboration between the SW of England and the Brittany region ocean economy clusters last week.

The South Coast Marine Cluster visited Brittany as part of a trade delegation hosted by Campus Mondial De La Mer with a series of bespoke meetings for SW businesses to boost trade and collaboration. Cluster Coordinator Sheldon Ryan was invited to speak and sign the convention agreement with Michel Gourtay, President of Technopole Brest Iroise at the cluster convention at Oceanopolis, Brest alongside other local and international delegates.

The two clusters have agreed a reciprocal soft-landing offer, where organisations will receive support to establish themselves across the Channel with local advice on finding premises, skills, business support and customers. The trade delegation kick started this activity and in July 2020 a trade delegation to the SW of the UK will be offered also.

In addition to working together to facilitate collaboration and joint activity the clusters have also agreed to partner at their parallel marine tech events, Marine Tech Expo and Sea Tech Week and around digital events such as the Data Hackathons, where Campus Mondial de la Mer has an established and successful international model.

Sheldon Ryan, Cluster Coordinator said “The level and coordination of the Ocean Economy in Brittany is truly world class. There is great potential and synergy between the two areas. Particularly in the context of Brexit it is critical that we build partnerships such as this where there is a real scope for increased trade and collaboration going forward”.
