Maritime UK SW are pleased to announce the £7.5M Innovation Launchpad.
In order to provide a briefing, in person Q&A and business case studies on successful previous Innovate UK applications Maritime UK have pulled together a full day event which will also cover People & Decarbonisation
As part of the Launchpad programme, the region is set to receive up to £7.5m of investment to drive innovation and business growth, building on its strengths in marine and maritime.
Innovation, People & Decarbonisation are three of the key issues affecting our sector and three areas where Maritime UK SW have key delivery programmes.
Maritime UK SW are organising a free event to enable businesses from across the South West to come together face to face and get involved.
The event will cover three themes, Innovation, People & Decarbonisation:
– Access innovation funding and support specific to maritime businesses.
Maritime UK SW have run a number of similar events over the last few years focussed around innovation and other sources of funding including the recent DFT Clean Maritime Demonstrator Competition. This event will provide a similar level of information, case studies and support to access innovation funding with case study examples from South West businesses and links to regional research partners and support.
– Help shape and benefit from a Maritime UK SW led programme to drive take up of careers across our sector and help deliver much needed skills.
Speaking to businesses across the region, access to the right skills would appear to be an huge issue which unites the sector, from deep sea shipping to ocean technology. Maritime UK SW have organised some careers and skills activity to date but mainly relying on national expertise from Maritime UK but with minimal resource here in the South West to enable regular or scaled delivery. Maritime UK SW now plan to significantly scale up support and seek support from the industry to help codesign a people programme fit for the sector in the SW.
– Decarbonise our sector and make informed de-risked investment decisions.
Maritime UK SW plan an evidence base and strategy to help de-risk and enable accelerated investment in marine and maritime decarbonisation. With numerous pioneering businesses and projects already underway in the SW this event will help communicate this workstream and explain how businesses can get involved and benefit.
The event will run from 10.30-3.45 and will include a free networking lunch and networking drinks afterwards.

There will be an online option for both events but attendance in person is strongly recommended. It is hard to enable collaborative R&D if we don’t meet face to face. The aim of Maritime UK SW is to build a leading cluster of marine technology businesses across the South West and this requires building relationships.
