Marine-i offers fully funded visit to National Renewable Energy Centre

Marine-i, the ongoing marine technology programme, is offering businesses in Cornwall the opportunity to visit the advanced testing facilities available at the National Renewable Energy Centre (NREC) in Blyth, Northumberland.

Cornish businesses, particularly those in marine tech or related sectors such as manufacturing, electronics or 3D printing, are encouraged to take part in the free testing capacity available at the NREC.

Part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, Marine-i is designed to help the marine technology sector in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly grow through harnessing the full potential of research and innovation.

The two-day visit to the National Renewable Energy Centre will take place on 17 & 18 March, 2022. Those local businesses who are selected for the trip will have all their travel and hotel costs funded by the Marine-i project.

Managed by Marine-i partner, Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, the National Renewable Energy Centre is the UK’s flagship technology innovation and research centre for advancing wind, wave and tidal energy. The advanced test facilities allow for the comprehensive testing and validation of new renewable energy technologies, according to Marine-i. They can also test specific components such as rotors, powertrains and electrical infrastructures.

Professor Lars Johanning, programme director for Marine-i says: “I would urge local marine tech businesses to take advantage of the opportunity to visit this outstanding test facility and learn how it could help to bring your new innovations to market. Local marine tech businesses in Cornwall have the opportunity to be at the forefront of the rapidly growing marine renewable energy market.

“This includes supply chain companies, such as manufacturers of turbine blades, electronics, or anchors and foundations. At the Marine-i project, we want to do all we can to help you develop your new technologies, and our support includes free access to world-class testing facilities.”

Businesses interested in participating can get more information by emailing info@marine-i.co.uk.
