New Maritime Skills and Innovation Centre opens in Plymouth

City College Plymouth’s flagship Centre of Higher Technical Innovation and Maritime Skills (TIMS) is officially open.

Located at the heart of Plymouth’s marine industry and standing just a stone’s throw from the water, the new teaching site at the Marine Enterprise Zone at Oceansgate is an essential part of the College’s ambitions to support the maritime, engineering, manufacturing, construction and digital technology industries.

The purpose-built site will enable the College to deliver new courses that are designed to provide employers with the skills and knowledge they will need tomorrow, today.

Students have access to specialist equipment such as Smart Sound Plymouth, a proving area for designing, testing and developing cutting-edge products (including CAD, VR, CNC, composites and marine autonomy) and services for the advanced marine sector.

The site boasts a bespoke Kimla 4 Axis, 3-D printers, a wave tank, and the site is set up to be fully accessible online for students who can’t always attend lectures in person due to work commitments.

The Centre of Higher Technical Innovation and Maritime Skills will support the delivery of a number of university-level qualifications that have been designed to specifically support the marine, engineering and built environment industries.
