Devon, Plymouth & Torbay Careers Hub partnership work with Maritime UK South West

Meaningful Employer Encounters

There are many ways that members of Maritime UK South West can support the Careers Hubs across the country. Interaction between employers and students is very powerful, in terms of motivation and raising aspiration. You could join our Give An Hour | The Careers and Enterprise Company scheme and just give one hour of your time, going into a school or college and sharing your own story, letting students know about your own career path and maybe give some hints and tips. If you wanted to give more than this, you could look at the option of becoming an Enterprise Adviser. You can either be linked to one specific school and work strategically with them once per term or you could become an ‘agile’ Enterprise Adviser and offer support across multiple schools, maybe taking part in operational activities, such as mock interviews Help schools, special schools and colleges shape future careers | The Careers and Enterprise Company

We have a really helpful resource so that you can complete a self-assessment through the Employer Standards: Shaping your workforce of tomorrow | The Careers and Enterprise Company helping you to reflect on how you currently support the future workforce and there are resources to support you in the development of this work

Careers in the Curriculum

Some of our employers are supporting schools with work within the curriculum. (Attached is an example of a company in Torbay, supporting a local school with their Geography curriculum at Key Stage 3). This makes the learning have relevance for students in seeing how they might be able to apply their knowledge in industry. Here is a central resource bank available nationally for all schools and colleges All the resources, all in one place | CEC Resource Directory

This could be from just a couple of hours to multiple days, with multiple students. You can design your support to work for you and your day-to-day commitments. Here are a couple of examples of experiences of the workplace activities-
